Iraqi Airways Launches Direct Flights Between Basra and Baku

Iraqi Airways, the state-owned Iraqi airline, has launched a new direct flight between Basra and Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. With this move, the company is expanding its international route network and responding to the growing demand for seasonal international travel, Shafaq News reported on July 7.

New Connection Between Iraq and the Caucasus

The new route establishes the first-ever direct flight connection between southern Iraq and the Caucasus. The route is aimed particularly at travelers from Iraq and the Gulf states who are looking for easily accessible and climatically more attractive destinations during the summer months.

Iraqi Airways announced that the first flight took place on July 8. The service will initially operate once a week, providing passengers from Basra and the surrounding provinces with direct access to Baku, one of the most important tourism and cultural centers in the Caucasus region.

Expansion of the International Route Network

General Manager Munaf Abdul Munim explained that the new route reflects the growing demand for international travel during the current vacation season.

“The new route offers residents of Basra and neighboring governorates a direct and convenient connection to Baku, one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations,” said Abdul Munim.

The airline views the new route as part of its strategy to expand its international network and offer Iraqi passengers additional travel options.

According to the CEO, Iraqi Airways plans to launch additional international routes to meet rising demand and expand the company’s presence in regional and international markets.
