Armenia's AI Data Center Set to Begin Operations

Armenia is on the verge of launching a large data center for artificial intelligence (AI) in the city of Hrasdan. The Ministry of High-Tech Industry announced that the first phase of the project will involve investments totaling $500 million and the deployment of thousands of high-performance processors.

On July 28, Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan visited Firebird AI’s “AB Factory” to assess the status of preparations, the technological infrastructure, and the installed high-performance computing systems ahead of the official opening.

First Phase to Feature More Than 6,000 NVIDIA Processors

In the first phase of expansion, 6,144 Blackwell-generation NVIDIA graphics processors will be installed. According to the ministry, the total investment is expected to rise to approximately $5 billion by the time the second phase of the project is completed. An additional 42,000 high-performance processors are then scheduled to be added.

Government Bets on AI as a Growth Sector

During his visit, Hayrapetyan stated that the project would make a significant contribution to Armenia’s technological development and the country’s international competitiveness.

“This strategic project, implemented by Firebird AI, is of great importance for Armenia’s technological development and for enhancing its international competitiveness. It opens up new opportunities for the science and research community, startups, high-tech companies, and the public sector,” the ministry quoted the minister as saying.

Firebird AI co-founder Alexander Yesayan accompanied Hayrapetyan during the tour. Together, they discussed the project’s next phases of development.

Launch in a Few Days

Hayrapetyan subsequently stated on Facebook that completion was imminent.

“What seemed impossible just a few months ago is now a reality. Firebird AI’s ‘AB Factory’ in Hrasdan will begin operations in a few days,” the minister wrote.

According to the ministry, the collaboration between the Armenian government and Firebird AI is intended to help transform Armenia from a mere user of new technologies into a developer of modern AI products and solutions for the international market.
