Inflation in Uzbekistan fell slightly in March. According to the National Statistics Committee, the annual inflation rate was 7.1 percent, compared to 7.3 percent in February. Compared to the previous year, when inflation was still at 10.3 percent, this shows a significant slowdown in inflation.
On a monthly basis, inflation in March remained stable at 0.6% compared to February and was also lower than in the same month last year. Core inflation, which excludes highly volatile components such as fruit and vegetables, was also stable: it amounted to 0.5% month-on-month and 7.8% year-on-year - significantly less than a year earlier.
Consumer prices rose by 1.9% in the first quarter of 2026 as a whole, indicating moderate price pressure at the start of the year.
A differentiated look at the individual components shows a mixed picture. Food prices rose by 1.2% in March compared to the previous month, after 0.9% in February. At the same time, annual food inflation slowed significantly to 5.6%, compared to 7.6% in the previous year.
Prices for non-food items rose moderately by 0.3% month-on-month and by 5.3% year-on-year. This also shows a slowdown compared to the previous year, when inflation was still at 7.4%.
Energy prices in particular had a dampening effect. Fuel prices fell by 0.9% in March compared to the previous month. Petrol prices fell across all common types, while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) even became 3.2% cheaper. Methane remained stable month-on-month, but was still around 30% higher than the previous year.
Overall, the trend indicates that inflationary pressure in Uzbekistan is gradually easing - even if individual price components remain volatile.
