Uzbekistan's inflation falls slightly to 7 percent

Annual inflation in Uzbekistan fell slightly to 7.0 percent in April. In March it was still at 7.1 percent, a year ago it was 10.1 percent. This was announced by the national statistics committee. In a monthly comparison, consumer prices rose by 0.6%. The momentum thus remained unchanged compared to March and was slightly below the figure for April 2025, when prices rose by 0.7%. Core inflation, i.e. the price trend excluding fruit and vegetables, was 7.6% year-on-year in April. In the previous year, it had still amounted to 12.3%. In the first four months of 2026, consumer prices rose by 2.5% overall. In the same period of the previous year, the increase was 2.9%. Food remains the most important price driver Food remained the most important factor for monthly inflation in April. It increased in price by 1.0% and thus contributed more than 60% to the overall price increase. Prices for non-food items rose moderately by 0.3% month-on-month. In a year-on-year comparison, they were 5.2% higher. The decline compared to the annual inflation rate of 6.7% in April 2025 thus continued. Inflation in the services sector also weakened, but remained elevated. The price of services rose by 0.4% month-on-month and by 12.0% year-on-year. Fuels and transport with mixed development In the transportation sector, petrol prices rose by 1.4% compared to the previous month. Compared to the previous year, they were 11.2% higher. Prices for liquid gas fell by 2.8% month-on-month and were 16.7% lower than in April 2025, with a price cap of 7,000 soums per liter. Methane became 0.7% more expensive month-on-month and cost almost 28% more than a year ago. In passenger transportation, prices for international flights rose by 2.6 percent compared to the previous month, but were 7.9 percent below the previous year's level. Domestic flights increased in price by 2.3 percent per month, but were 13.1 percent cheaper year-on-year. City bus travel rose by 1.6% compared to the previous month and by 16.4% compared to the previous year. Long-distance rail travel was 1.4% more expensive per month and 13.6% higher than the previous year. Rates for utility services remained largely stable. Waste disposal was an exception: Its prices rose by 2.4 percent month-on-month and 28.0 percent year-on-year.
